Just looking through my QC training notes and it reminded me that some external scopes allow you to enable the SAV/EAV (start of Active Picture/ End of Active Picture) markers that will then show those markers on the display. That's the most accurate way of seeing exactly what samples are active as it's all the samples between those markers.
