[Avid-L2] Re: QC Quote of the day (BLANKING)

Re the blanking question raised.
We do and have done a lot of QC training as well as actually doing it ourselves in house for our Post services.
Yes modern scopes still temd to show digital signals in sudo analogue ways which isn't ideal.
You can use cages to super impose graphics for title safe as well as wdge of frame.
You can measure the digital blanking but that varies based on frame rate line count etc.
Also you can't tell if its start of line or end of line or both that's at fault.
We have external scopes calibrated with markers for actual start of active line and end of active line and can magnify and measure to the pixel.
You also need to ve aware of any invaild content outside active picture as this can upset some encoders.  So just monitoring active picture isn't enough.

Ironically VET has just started to run a regular QC course which covers much of this. Based on the specific bespoke QC and AQC training we've been delivering thats normally custom designed for a particular client this will be generic.
