At my regular gig they got a Panasonic BT-LH2170 monitor for their Resolve bay. When my JVC DTV LCD monitor collapsed right in front of me with the screen brightness dimming to about half bright I swapped it with the Panny. I have a consumer Samsung 50 inchish LCD screen for the clients but I've almost never turned it on. After a QC about dead pixels I notice that the big Samsung shows the dead pixels clearly there but the Panny has no sign of them. Granted it's a smaller screen and the Samsung is a bit blown out I'm not sure why even with close examination I can't see the dead pixels on the smaller Panny screen. Is there some strange smoothing processing going on in this "Broadcast Quality" monitor. I don't mind the overall image of the monitor but an inability to detect dead pixels that are very apparent on the Samsung is a problem and the lack of audio monitoring ch1&3 left and ch 2&4 right like I had with the JVC is annoying.
Anybody have any insight as to why the display is somehow masking the dead pixels? I haven't gone through the specs yet but if the panel is 720 native could that be a factor?
