I'm using USB 3 on a feature film. DNxHD115. No heavy effects. Relatively simple timelines. (no stringout of scenes longer than about 6 minutes at the moment.) I do have multicam and a bunch of autosynced audio tracks per source and scriptsync. Editing on an iMac, believe it or not and a second monitor. It's actually quite speedy.
Assistant actually working a day BEHIND me using a laptop and a cloned drive from the previous night, doing ScriptSync and further organization and prep work for the "real" edit (cutting on set at the moment). On set editing HAS paid off. Caught at least two major problems that we could get a re-shoot on while still in the area.

I have used them when working remotely on several hour long docs with heavy effects. I have been able to get a couple of streams of DNxHD145 to play cleanly. Anything more that that is pushing it.
