For existing licenses, the best deal is the base support package for your existing license. For the same $299, support include upgrades for a year. This is a one time offer designed to convert existing licenses and to get everyone on to a support plan. Frankly, it's a generous deal for existing customers. Essentially, it's a one year subscription, for half the price.
Now at the end of that year, you cannot renew this support, and at that point there will be no upgrades anymore. Your only options will be subscription with support or full licenses with one year support.
It's all too complicated but there is a sound logic to it.
