In FCP7, video windows use different levels from the UI, courtesy of Quicktime.  Am I missing such a setting in Avid?  

In Media Composer, trying to get the video window in the UI to match the evaluation monitor perfectly, seems to be pursuing the perfect at the expense of the good.  The lack of extra ambient light from the UI is the biggest issue, followed closely by the color temperature setting, and the general color neutrality of the interface.  I would not sacrifice any of these to get a perfect image in the tiny, nearly useless video window.
