Re: [Avid-L2] Recommendations Low Budget Feature

The first question is, what are they shooting? RED? Alexa? If Alexa, then ArriRAW or ProRes 4444 Log-C? What?

Then I would always say transcode, transcode, transcode — to DNxHD 36 or 115. For that you'll need a couple of TB for the dailies, and then for your work (renders, music imports, graphics, whatever). But be sure you're storing at RAID 5 or some other mirrored, backed-up system.

Yes, you could use AMA for this sort of thing, but I just don't really believe in it for feature work. You'll be so much happier with transcoded DNxHD MXF files zooming along happily inside the Avid.

Dearest Sage Ones,

Seeking recommendations for a low budget feature I'm cutting in July. I would prefer to cut from the camera sources, so I'll need enough storage to cover 20 shoot days.

How much storage would you recommend I get, and do you have any favorite RAID setups?

Also, does anyone have a feature film project template (Avid) they might care to share?

Avid MC 7.1
OS X 10.9.2
