here is how Avid's offering looks now;
Media Composer | Software
Media Composer | Symphony option
Media Composer | Newscutter option
Media Composer | Production pack
Media Composer | Phrasefind option
Media Composer | Scriptsync option
Media Composer | Nitris DX
Media Composer | Mojo DX
Media Composer | Cloud
You are right, Media Composer | Cloud is effectively a license that turns your 'on premise' Interplay & ISIS into one that (with the addition of an ICS server - a RedHat server running on an HP Server) can be accessed by Media Composers anywhere on a WAN or LAN
Personally I think it is a great name; it describes precisely what it does: it allows Media Composer to edit from an Interplay & ISIS in a cloud.

The $139K is incorrect. $139K is for ISIS 2500, which is their NEARLINE solution. MC Cloud (aka Sphere) is usually connected to an ISIS 5000 or 7000 series.
ISIS 5000 I think starts at around $32K.
HOWEVER, Sphere required you to have Interplay. I don't see anything in the current press releases that negate this. So you still need Interplay, Sphere and MC software to edit via the cloud.
