Re: [Avid-L2] Uninstall Madness

Stefan,

If Marianna hasn't already done so and you are still in need of help, send me an email off list and I will have somebody contact you and get you some assistance.

Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] Uninstall Madness

Well Michael, with equal respect to you, let me touch upon that.

Actually, I wasn't the original poster of this thread, I merely added to it.  I've been dealing with this for a couple months now.  I've tried to address it first at Avid (with no more success than "do a manual uninstall" as the ultimate solution).  Did that.  Still left with a product that doesn't work.  And I've seen the multiple listings of where the installers don't work.

All of this was after hearing for months that you shouldn't install MC on a Mavericks machine.  Finally I hear it through the grapevine (not via Avid) that it's safe to finally install the latest version with Mavericks.  But don't use that Uninstaller that causes a kernel panic.  Use the other one.

I have jumped through ALL the hoops that Avid has tossed out and jumped through them according to prescribed method and manner.  I have no third party plug-ins, everything I have comes from Avid.

This is the FIRST place I have actually gotten any useful support and help from anyone, and I actually did give kudos to the group for it.

But give me a break, as long as I have been in this group about a month now, the longest running thread that I have seen has been "Challenges with Avid".  And really, it has been shocking to me.  To see the amount of frustration and fear going into what is going on with Avid, and I haven't contributed a word.  This has been the first and probably one of the last days I will say anything to the group.

When Apple set us FCP Legacy editors out to pasture, I figured I had best find the next best platform to migrate to.  I have scarcely had the time to even learn the new system because I have been dealing with the challenges of a system which has lodged itself into my computer, and as far as I can tell, may not yet have all of it's parts out of.

Put yourself in my shoes (rather than simply the one who sees thousands of installs and uninstalls going swimmingly for you) I have a product which has yet to demonstrate itself as a capable product.  One good install. . . No successful un-installs.  Multiple failed re-installs.  Multiple kernel panics of which I have never seen in ANY software package I have EVER worked with.  On top of all that, I hear just how poorly the company is performing at a business and administration level. . .  And you begin to understand why it hasn't just been a hard day, but now over a month of nothing positive about Avid, and no support offered from them.

You just might begin to understand why you sense a significant amount of ire directed toward this company and product, and why frankly, I can see why its days just be numbered.  Let's face it, Avid had the business of thousands of FCP editors just tossed in their lap and I ask you what they've done with it?

Don't worry, I won't be posting anything further in this forum because nobody seems to have anymore real answers that seem to work (save for wipe your entire machine and start over again with everything.  When I can't even depend upon it having a platform that successfully removes or installs its software, why should I actually expect that things will actually be getting any better.

Good success to you.  I am glad you aren't in my shoes or anybody else who is dealing with this level of aggravation.

Stefan,

With all due respect, do you really think that all of Avid's installs are
this tough for users? Do you seriously think that even more than a handful
go like this? I realize you've had a very frustrating day, but inundating
our inboxes with your vitriol is not going to quell your frustration any
more than inciting our distaste for your unprofessional manner in which
you've handled a botched install.

I've installed many versions of Avid over a hundred times in numerous
iterations of OS, and have had overwhelming success with them. As long as
you stick to the Avid matrix of recommended compatibility, fully uninstall
and reinstall each time, and keep your machines clean of third party
software that would intrude on the application, the upgrades and patches go
smoothly.

When I have had an unsuccessful install, I can almost always trace it back
to a permissions issue in the OS from some other piece of software that
created a conflict. You are truly asking for too much if you think a
software company should keep track of everyone else's versioning.
