Re: [Avid-L2] Re: Avid on new Mac Pro - approved

OK thanks. Don't get me wrong, the MacPro is a great machine, it just doesn't work with some existing hardware (including Nitris DX) out in the market.

Best of luck, take care,

Dave

"I understand your concern. But you have to understand that we could have never known in 2008 that Apple (or any other CPU vendor) would develop a Computer that would not interface with Nitris DX. Apple does not disclose technical specifications before they release a product, we pretty much learn about these things like you do. A redesign is impossible but we will continue to search for a solution, but it's not looking good, we have done a significant amount of testing and engineering to find a solution.

You need to evaluate all of the options available to you if you choose to upgrade your CPU's. That's the best answer I can give you. As a side note, FCP 7 does not work on the new MacPro's does it?"

Dave, thanks for your frankness. I spoke with Bob Russo in Dec., and he lamented that Avid did not even have a new mac pro to bang on (Apple would not provide one.) No doubt you've tried the few TBolt-PCIe products out there. I DO understand Apple dealt you – and everyone – a real curve ball. My personal systems are PC-based, but the school is very much mac-minded.

This helps me know where we need to go HW-wise. And you are correct, FCP7 is a no-go on the new mac pros, but I've been pushing to stop our support for FCP7 next year, as it's apparently not going to rise from its grave ;>) and Premiere is close enough.
