My estimates are no longer even close and the repairs take a very long time. Probably not 30 minutes, but enough that I walk away and leave it. It always takes a long time, every time. I'm running 10.9.2 with 200GB of data. This is a new, clean install. It does not find a lot of errors.
I think it just takes much longer now. I also believe it's not the raw volume, but the number of files. I've noticed that file counts have increased dramatically over time due to changes in the way we now use computers.

I've repaired the disk permissions on my circa 2009 MBP several times in a row and each time it estimates approx 30 minutes for the repair. In the past IIRC running disk repair once got most everything repaired and a subsequent disk repair might have a few items but would take significantly less time. This is no longer the case. The MBP is 10.6.8 on a HD partition of approx 268GB with approx 28GB free space. I've googled and see some of the iTunes issues and others can be ignored but I don't ever recall this process taking 30 minutes. Sometimes the estimate aren't exact but it does seem to be taking roughly 30 minutes each time and still ends up with a long list of repairs and some occasional warnings. The computer has been taking much longer than usual to boot lately which is why I thought repairing permissions might help with that. It seems repairing permissions is a lot like the older days of rebuilding the desk top in a sense I do it without really knowing if it's helping or not. It's the lack of a reduction in errors listed and duration of the repair that seems problematic. Any experiences appreciated.
