First, why are you leaving a blank track in between the two tracks.
Second, you need to check your effect rendering settings in the "Media Creation" settings. The default settings are to use "Same as Source" for the rendering. You want to change that to a 10 bit codec of your choice.
Third, depending upon what you are trying to do with the masked color, you can usually just use Avid's "Spot Color" effect. It doesn't have the full range of tools the CC has, but it does have enough to handle most power window type operations saving you the steps of duplicating material and correcting two layers.
It also helps when using the source side correction of Symphony.
For example, you color a sit down interview and use Spot Color to create a vignette. Using source color the interview is corrected throughout your timeline. Now add a custom color to the interview clips in your bin and you can then whip through your timeline and drop on the spot color effect to all the shots.
I can attest that to the fact that is possible to render the edges without banding, I do it all the time.
Finally, I would be remiss to not point out once again that I have been asking Avid to build shapes support into the color corrector for at least 15 years. But obviously the powers at Avid feel there aren't enough people who would buy Symphony to justify making it a proper tool. Of course this shows the typical lack of vision of a company that can only see a direct dollar attached to each item as opposed to how an item boosts an entire food chain without having apparent direct value. :-(
