[Avid-L2] Re: Data Recovery

Here is a suggestion from Greg Huson from a previous Data Recovery Thread:

There's a place out here in Sherman Oaks that's served me well - $300 data recovery.

I think they're good if the media's OK, but the motherboard on the drive is fried - which is the more common problem when a drive fails. You can FedEx stuff to them. They have an online questionnaire that will help predict their success - smart business since they offer results or no charge- or rather, no charge if they can't get your data back. So the 'online interview' helps weed out drives they think they probably can't fix to begin with- and saves you the trouble of mailing the drive if they think they can't fix it.

My only issue is that they apparently spammed the shit out of my facebook list using me as the source - without any permission to do that or anything like that. I guess that's more a lesson about facebook than them, but, you know, fair warning.

Anyone have any recommendations for a Data Recovery service?

Hard drive crashed on my laptop - and of course that's when I discovered that my backups have not been running properly.    Can't initialize the drive to even to a sector by sector scan, but it appears to be spinning up.

Thanks
Mark
