Re: [Avid-L2] Uninstall Madness

I'll be darned. The move-the-app-to-the-trash-then-run-uninstaller trick worked! And that's great. But why should there be 'tricks'? I know, it's naive of me to not see software and hardware for what it is, in all its inelegant, wart-ridden ugliness, and that I should not expect seamless integration and functionality. But... why not?

(Thanks for the tip, Augustin)

For what it's worth, uninstalling FCP legacy from your computer was no picnic, either.  There were several third party tools out there to do it for you without using terminal voodoo, because Apple never bothered with an uninstaller.

Adobe has a similar uninstaller to Avid, and if anyone tells you it never has a problem , they are lying or lucky.

Truth is, most NLEs are complicated beasts and there are many different configurations out there.  Your recent OS install might actually be partly the problem, as sometimes permissions get messed up doing that.   Adobe and Apple do provide at least a small amount of free tech support, but it's mostly worthless.  Chances are, you'll get a better answer on a forum like this anyway,

I can't speak about uninstalling Lightworks or FCPX.  No first hand knowledge.

I'll keep looking for the manual uninstall procedure, but it may be outdated since the last time I did it was pre-Mavericks.

I love Avid, but I'm afraid I'm forced to agree with Stefan. Something as simple as getting the program to run on your computer should not be a tumultuous, frustrating roundelay of voo doo chants, ritual sacrifice and satanic incantations. You shouldn't have to poke around for other people's little tricks and workarounds. And you sure as shite shouldn't have to reinstall your entire friggin' OS just to get the previous version off your computer.

Again, I love cutting on Avid. For what I do it's unarguably the best offline cutter out there. Hands down. But I swear to Jeebus, if Lightworks' upcoming Mac version does what it says it will, I might be tempted to mosey on over and buy it a drink.

Yeah, it involves going in to terminal and screwing around with a bunch of stuff that nobody should ever have to deal with.

Dragging the Uninstaller to the desktop doesn't work.

I've gotten that argument. . . Plus, no, you can't use the uninstaller that came with it, you have to use the NEW ONE!!

Avid should be embarrassed.  I actually heard someone excuse it by saying "Well at least they are a company that ALL they do is editorial and broadcasting equipment" Yeah, so you'd think they could get it right if they only have one thing that they should be doing well.

I have yet to see a decent solution to this problem which is something like trying to remove Borg parts from a human body.
