Thank you.  Why I couldn't have been directed to something like that from the Avid Website is beyond me.

Also, to address what John Pale pointed out. . . Why is it that Avid can't simply do an upgrade?  Even within versions?  With FCP Legacy, that was easy enough to do.

It shouldn't require work arounds.  This is about the quality of you product, and if you design a car that requires you remove the entire engine just to do an oil change, you deserve to go out of business.

I do appreciate your perspective, John.  This just smacks of comfortable, corporate level amateurishness.  We're so big that we don't need to be accountable to our customers needs.  It's something that Microsoft has done, and now even Apple is getting to be more and more that way.

Kudos to this forum.  There are clearly some great minds and good people here!  (Why can't they be fixing the problems at Avid?) ;)

Adobe has a similar uninstaller to Avid, and if anyone tells you it never has a problem , they are lying or lucky.

Truth is, most NLEs are complicated beasts and there are many different configurations out there.  Your recent OS install might actually be partly the problem, as sometimes permissions get messed up doing that.   Adobe and Apple do provide at least a small amount of free tech support, but it's mostly worthless.  Chances are, you'll get a better answer on a forum like this anyway,

I can't speak about uninstalling Lightworks or FCPX.  No first hand knowledge.


I'll keep looking for the manual uninstall procedure, but it may be outdated since the last time I did it was pre-Mavericks.

I love Avid, but I'm afraid I'm forced to agree with Stefan. Something as simple as getting the program to run on your computer should not be a tumultuous, frustrating roundelay of voo doo chants, ritual sacrifice and satanic incantations. You shouldn't have to poke around for other people's little tricks and workarounds. And you sure as shite shouldn't have to reinstall your entire friggin' OS just to get the previous version off your computer.

Again, I love cutting on Avid. For what I do it's unarguably the best offline cutter out there. Hands down. But I swear to Jeebus, if Lightworks' upcoming Mac version does what it says it will, I might be tempted to mosey on over and buy it a drink.

Dragging the Uninstaller to the desktop doesn't work.

I've gotten that argument. . . Plus, no, you can't use the uninstaller that came with it, you have to use the NEW ONE!!  

Avid should be embarrassed.  I actually heard someone excuse it by saying "Well at least they are a company that ALL they do is editorial and broadcasting equipment" Yeah, so you'd think they could get it right if they only have one thing that they should be doing well.

I have yet to see a decent solution to this problem which is something like trying to remove Borg parts from a human body.
