What I actually do is number picture and sound separately by shooting day.
So:
day #1 picture goes into folder 101
day #1 sound goes into folder 201
day #2 picture goes into folder 102
day #2 sound goes into folder 202
Etc.
Renaming them with non-numbers is possible, but when exchanging footage between systems (and platforms), I feel more secure using numbers.
