We had two of them one place I worked we always called them the mickey mouse one inch cos the big spools looked like ears.
I cant recall if the spools wre at different heights as it was 1985 the last time i used one. The three hour spools were almost quad tape heavy though I remember that.
Interestingly it was a really really long time before we could record 3hours again once they stopped doing the mod.

Crap Greg's Red Giant link already sucked Santa dry. What's the exact nature of the 3 hour mod? I assume it's big ass reels with 3 hours of tape which is why the new spindles are up higher but they don't look much further apart. Are the reel tables at different heights so one reel fits under the other reel?
