Re: [Avid-L2] plural eyes and avid

There are a couple of ways of dealing with the sync offset of the camera,

If you use the AAF method, which gives you an avid sequence, you can just lasso all the audio and move it a few frames to bring it in sync.  Trim off the excess, and AutoSync, giving you synced Avid subclips.

If you want to export QuickTime media out of Pluraleyes with embedded synced audio, you can adust for the offset in the Plural Eyes timeline first, before exporting media.

It's helpful to run tests to determine the offset of the camera first.

I find, for small batches...where everything is really done well and straightforward on site, Plural eyes is next to useless as I can sync faster myself.   PluralEyes is a big help where you have a ton of material.  You still may need to help out PE and pull stuff out of the batch that will confuse it, but it will save you time in the long run.

The other critical problem with PluralEyes is that it matches the waveforms to the CAMERA's waveforms which are not in sync to begin with. So the good audio will be just as out of sync as the bad audio.

Try this at home. Shoot five seconds of a selfie with a 5D of you clapping once.

Then import it and look at where the waveform is compared to the visual of the clap. Will probably be off by two or three frames.

Anyone using Plural Eyes with Avid on a regular basis. Starting to get lots of DSLR footage these days with separate audio files. I watched a tutorial and it looked like a snap but when I test it out, I got errors. Does it work?
