RE: Re: [Avid-L2] Top Gun edited on a computer?

I don't want to admit how long it was after leaving Steenbecks for MC before I realized the two tiny horizontal lines that represent an add edit in the timeline were supposed to look like the grease pencil marks we used to put over an unintentional edit in a work print before sending it off to the negative cutter. It told them that it was the same shot (and therefore the same part of the negative) on either side of the tape splice and so they shouldn't cut negative there.

Talk about long ago and far away,

The bbc people used to get all wound up about these kind of semantics too.  There was a bksts meeting once where they tried to make us discuss whether a vertical wipe moved a vertical line horizontally or a horizontal line vertically. We avoided that by saying just use the wipe number. Course then we simply moved onto the 'whose wipe numbers - gvg or cmx?' argument instead.
