Actually, it is a fairly well-known problem. You need to download the last maintenance release for whatever previous version of software you're running. I'm not sure what it is for 6.0, but for 6.5, you need 6.5.3.1. There are new things in bin structure starting with 7 that are incompatible with some earlier versions.
This was actually discussed again just a few days ago in this group.
Once you open the bin from 7.x in the correct prior version, you can then open that bin in any prior version.
