I can only speak for Resolve - but the round trip is pretty decent, and it
can render handles to allow for (small) changes in Avid after the return,
which is nice. It's smart enough to ignore AVX effects it doesn't
understand and simply duplicates them onto the output AAF when you're done.
I had a little trouble making small changes to my grades and having them
relink in Avid, but that may have been an issue in my workflow, I'm not
entirely sure.
In our work I find I have to consolidate before I send to Resolve, but
depending on how many clips and how they're organised, it can be possible
to link directly to the source media without needing to consolidate - in
our case Resolve freaks out trying to index the very large amount of media.
Also, I'm quite looking forward to Resolve 10 soon.
That said, for our work I'm still using Symphony for 99% of my colour work.
I only send things to Resolve when they are too demanding for Symphony's
tools. And I've been looking at using Baselight in the timeline for those
cases, so even that may stop.
