Yet another new day and I found my render crashed after about 30 clips. I found several discussion threads about the AMAProducerTask Error with no answer other than it sucks and it's inconsistent. Well I finally bailed on Avid doing the transcodes.
I went back to the main sequence and did my don't look at the media relinking with all the sma linked Red R3D files ama linked to the sequence. I then exported an aaf and imported that into Resolve with use embedded time code but had to shut off assist using Reel numbers. As Scott has pointed our the aaf's take the reel number from the source file name and the problem I had was the reel number we had added to the ama'd Red clips was not embedded into the R3D files. So Resolve wouldn't link the sequence with assist with Reel numbers checked. There is probably some exotic way of configuring this behavior but I don't have time to experiment with that now. On another show the Assit with Reel numbers works because it is a tape based show and the Reel number metadata does get embedded into the clip media. Not the case on the Red show
So now I'm going to led the timeline export with the Avid Round trip easy set up and I'll see later what I end up with. According to my AE after this part of the process he has had to manually re-add the reel numbers to these rendered out clips to get them to relink back in Avid. I guess this is also part of the aaf reel numbers not being usable. The edl window does however show the correct reel names so maybe I'll be surprised but that's not likely from what I've been going through.
I don't know who to blame for the Producer Task error. Is it Red not making a robust ama plug in or is there something on the Avid side. It sure makes all but an initial transcode to full Res from the R3D files a complete pain and virtually unusable in this particular situation. Oh well more will be revealed.

Then after loading the forth reel volume the producer task error came back. I still loaded all the reels as ama volumes and gave them the appropriate tape name and the entire sequence showed it was linked. When I went to transcode the sequence the producer task error reappeared on the first clip and stopped the transcode without a crash.

I made sure to turn of viewing in the sequence and I never once loaded any clips in the source monitor. I refreshed the source settings on all the sequence versions and relinked them all. I then hit transcode and it started transcoding without an error. It's on clip 8 of 555 and because of disk space I choose DNX 145 for the test but so far so good.

Also these folder are usually one clip that is over an hour. Some have a few short clips and an hour plus one. If I close the bins and reopen them things are okay and everything sticks but if I quit Avid and start up again reopening the bins shows the clips without the ama link icon, at least for the hour plus clips, and the clips show as offline. So each time Avid is restarted I have to remount the ama volumes and go through the renaming ext... This is on SNDX 6.0.4 OS 10.6.8 macpro 8 core with 14 GB or ram. Hopefully the transcode will complete successfully.
