Having used many products from both manufacturers, my choice is HP.
Just know that ordering a true 'custom built' HP mobile workstation will be a costly and time-consuming affair. However, their pre-configured machines can be very cost-effective and are stocked by many resellers.
I believe the 8770 is the most powerful machine at this moment:

The nVidia version supports 4 monitors (including the laptop monitor) while the AMD version supports 5 monitors (including the laptop monitor). Of course, these monitor configurations require the Advanced Dock.
Importantly, at NAB, HP told me that Thunderbolt will start appearing in mobile workstations at the end of the year. If that is true, and if you can wait, it might be worth delaying the purchase.
