[Avid-L2] Re: OT:archive family movies

Hi All,

Since my extended family designated me as "official family archivist" back in 1987, I have had the pleasure of attending most family functions as the "guy with the still camera/video camera".

Have been moving all tape sources from VHS, MiniDV, BetaSP, DVCam and digital files to long term storage and converting/scanning photos and slides to TIFF files.

I picked up a used Telestream Pipeline (SD) and have used that to convert all tapes to ProRes422. Fortunately, I have decks to play out the tapes at work and will take the Pipeline up there on weekends for transfer.

Take the files home and catalog them in CatDV; add metadata and send HTML links to family members to print out for reference.

Family Holidays include some time spent with older family members to help me with ID of photos from the 1880's up to 1960's. Again, add metadata in CatDV on my laptop.

It is a true labor of love and my two kids will get hard drives with all of their pictures and videos growing up as wedding presents.
