Re: [Avid-L2] Espera

It is not FTP. It's UPD. Very different. It may look similar in some respects but how it handles the data is different. With a 100Mb/s internet connection at both ends (server and client) we can transfer a whole 20min reel of DPX files form Austin to L.A. in just a few hours. Way faster than FedEx.

The one surprise with it is that it will often try to use the maximum bandwidth available, depending on the transfer speed license bought and transfer settings. Which means that if you are uploading/downloading at home over a regular cable internet connection to some facility that has a 100Mb/s internet connection you may not be able to surf the internet or check email until the transfer is done.

We have an Aspera system in house and sometimes have had people complain that it makes their internet connection fail, when the reality is that it's just using all of their bandwidth to transfer data.
