Re: [Avid-L2] what are yall using to archive

Hi Mike,

I moved us over to a Cache-A system (Pro Cache) a couple of years ago. http://www.cache-a.com/productspro.php
Having had 2 hard drives refuse to spin up after sitting on a shelf for too long (didn't seem too long at the time!) we knew that we needed to move off of 'stacked on a shelf' hard drives as storage.

I have been very happy with LTO5 as an archive solution.

I use it for all of our Avid jobs, as well as our Flame archives. (longer setup story but happy to elaborate if you need).

I will tell you the one thing that I don't like about the Cache-A system. I don't care for its 'finding' ability. I find it too slow and cumbersome.

I do have a workaround to that... I archive, then restore the tape, and 'index' the restore with software called 'Neo Finder' http://www.cdfinder.de/
It's search is LIGHTNING fast. (and also available via network)

As I mentioned, this system has been working solidly for over 2 years now.
