And thoughts on the advantage of these systems (xendata/cache-a) compared
with an LTO5/6 with LTFS just mounted as a drive? I'm thinking small scale
where a robot won't really ever be relevant.

And we also like the Xendata 1500 as it keeps a nice little stub file
that you can use to reaccess archived files by hand or using a MAM
http://tinyurl.com/aj76z4j
you can attach it to any Windows 7 PC as they sell it in kit form with
the SAS card and the LTO 5 drive. It is sweet and the tapes you make can
be inserted into a larger Xendata archive if you are sending camera
rushes into somewhere that has one.

Mike -
If you are looking for something more stable than hard drives, many
folks on
the list are using LTO. Check out http://www.cache-a.com/.
http://www.cache-a.com/>
http://www.cache-a.com/> They have
several tiers of products that can be used in a stand-alone
configuration or
with an asset management solution like CatDV. They have just announced
support for LTO6 which has a capacity of 2.5TB and a shelf life of 30
years.
Hit me offline if you want some more info.

Hi
Over the past few years we have changed from mostly tape to mostly
digital
shooting. As a consequence the way we used to archive old projects
doesn't
work.
Sometimes I will end up with 1 or 2 usb drives with all the footage from
a
shoot...theres a big pile of them building up in one of the Avid suites.
Frankly, I don't put a lot of faith in the longevity of these little
drives.
I'm thinking of getting a large raid server that can just hold all the
stuff
(till it gets full then we'll have another talk about longer term
archival)
What are you using to archive old footage that was aquired digitally?
