Shoot 23.98. Post 23.98. VFX, mix, master, grade, etc. at 23.98. Very final step is to pull up to true 24 for release. Then for the PAL that just gets pulled up to 25. The projects that I've worked on that we did this went very smoothly. We did do a project a while back that was shot at true 24 and it became a pull up / pull down nightmare during post. And it's because video in the US is still rooted in 29.97.
It's not as much of an issue now that most composers and audio editors are working with QT based video on computer monitors, but most external monitors (i.e. TVs) are not true 24 compatible.
And get ready for working with trailer houses. For some crazy reason they still seem to mostly work at 29.97 for off lining theatrical trailers.

What is important is that the TV show is for the PAL market. But of course the feature theatrical distribution will happen at 24fps, because this is a wide, mainstream movie that's going into a whole bunch of theaters.

So there's no way to say, "Oh, well, we'll just shoot movie scenes at 24fps and TV scenes in 25 fps!" because, as I said, it's one big orgy. So we have to choose a base frame rate and let one side of this party adjust to the other.

The TV episodes will be most often viewed in SD, some HD, but still -- TV screens at home. Does this reasoning hold up? I would love people's thoughts on this.
