Re: [Avid-L2] Log C Q

There's no 'base LUT' in symphony- but you will come up with your own settings pretty quickly.

You will likely not have any trouble with DNx or ProRes.

So far my only complaint is for the camera department: you still have to properly expose the shot! The codec gets very noisy if you have to stretch brightness or contrast too far. Since its an 8-bit codec, stair stepping shows up in grads pretty quickly. Still that's usually WAY preferable to clipping or crushed blacks that you would otherwise have to try to recover.

Grading from log is a dream compared to fixing badly shot material. Your crafting instead of fixing. One caveat- there are no 'free' shots. You have to tweak every single shot. Nothing in log is broadcast-ready. (unless you're making one of those ugly beer or sprint spots!). Also, the temptation to stylize every shot is great- you have way more influence in the final look and it's important to pace yourself.

If you're not already grading in curves, you better get used to that quickly!!
