Just to be clear, I'm talking about AMA clips relinking to their associated media. That's possible in 6.5 but doesn't give you the options of of reel, TC, etc. that are under the Relink menu item. That's a different process. You highlight the offline clips and relink to the media files. A dialogue box comes up and you point to the correct directory and it relinks media. Just like in FCP or PPro. The clips that successfully relinked to the media files however, were the ones that displayed no TC info.
So yes, in hindsight, bringing in a completely new set of AMA clips and then using the Relink menu might have been more successful. I'll have to test that when I get a slow spell.
