5.5.3 was the first version support on 10.6.8. This KB article is a good one to subscribe too as each time a change is made the article is updated and you get emailed.

I would recommend you upgrade to the latest 5.5.x patch as Robert is spot on with his comments that a lot of things have been fixed.
