Ah yes. Thank you Roger. I was hoping it would be something simple like the mute button. Coming from a Windows background, I'm not used to having that function on the keyboard. That did the trick...
But after I posted this yesterday, I ran into a more serious problem. Clipwrap was converting clips in the background, while i was editing on my avid, and when I checked the 3 hours' worth of new clips, none of them had audio. I went ahead and did the job again without anything else running, and they were fine. This morning I tried to duplicate the problem with the avid running, but the audio was there regardless. Possibly I had too many other programs running too during clipwrap yesterday.
The clipwrap use came up, because my Lumix GH2 footage (1080p 23.98) no longer reads the same in Mountain Lion. I originally thought it was because I had recently done a firmware update to the camera, but then I looked at old camera files on my drive, and they no longer read as separate clips in a folder either. Mountain Lion sees it as one AVCHD icon, and where I used to be able to import individual clips, now I get an error message: "NEM File Writer has detected upstream pipe stall". After thrashing about a bit, I came up with the clipwrap conversion solution, which works quite well.... Ah, I guess that's progress....

After exporting a sequence from the avid full res, I opened MPEG Streamclip to compress an mp4, and when I played back the new clip there was no audio. I finally figured out that the new file was fine; I just could not hear the audio while the Avid was open. This is true for all apps such as QT, YouTube, etc. The Avid grabs the sound, and won't yield it to anything else. I can start a clip playing on Streamclip, for example, click on the avid, and then I hear the sound. Rather confounding. The only solution at the moment is to close the avid and reopen it after listening to other programs.. Any suggestions? Thanks, Steve
