For starter, version 6 and above are supported only with Windows7 64bit on PC side.

An academic friend of mine took the plunge into 6.5 on Friday night
and hasn't been happy.
Trying to install 6.5 gave the error message: "Install newer installer
software package".
He has since tried to uninstall 6.0, reinstall 6.5, and has the same
problem.
Now, he's unsucessfully trying to re-install 6.0.
Any further advice?
He's running Windows XP on a custom-built box, and he is running it
software-only, he has no additional video hardware.
