Well here is the answer I got from BMD support:
"There is no video hardware available that will work with your vintage of MBP and Resolve. The ExpressCard slot does not have enough bandwidth to work with the USB3 products.
Sorry not to have a better answer for you. In the iMac/MBP world, the only way this will work is if you have a Thunderbolt equipped device."
Oh well my 2009 MBP intel 3.06GHz core 2 duo has been capable up to now. Oh well time marches on. Too bad BlackMagic has such a vested interest in limiting the video cards to their own, but hey what do you want for free software of a box that is an industry standard. Guess a Mac Pro might be in my future. Come on somebody make a hack so I could use an AJA I/O Express with Resolve it's just a matter of wrangling some ones and zeros in the right order.
