What is extremely important is the Debayer settings. I think MC defaults to Full (4/5K) Debayer, which takes forever. If you go to Half Good, you're close to 2K/HD, and for most purposes, that will suffice (and transcode significantly faster).
Native R3D over AMA is for previews and to slap a few shots together. Anything you'll work on for longer than 1 day, you'd better transcode. Despite what marketing claims.
