Subject: Re: [Avid-L2] Re: DCP Knowledge in LA area

I have done that a lot over the past few years and have had a lot of disappointing experiences with BluRay screenings. For one, only a few theaters have a BD player installed, most of them would have to hook one up for the occasion, and a lot of them were then not set up properly, their scalers would not have a preset that would let a 2.39:1 BD fill the screen top/bottom/left/right, and would not properly detect the 1080p24.000 source (stuttering), and sound would often be hooked up through dodgy cinch connections and buzz from here to eternity.

Plus: since it was different at EVERY theater, it always takes a few hours of setting up and testing, and this is no sincecure in theaters that operate with just one technician, if any, and that technician would not necessarily know the ins and outs of the equipment.

So all in all, if I were able to deliver the very same item they would get delivered every week, being a DCP, that would hopefully make things much, much easier. Sort of like walking into a theater with a 35mm print back in the days.
