I've tried the previous version. Smoke is an online editor/finishing tool, not an rough-cut/offline editor. DS is capable of more of the latter. Smoke 2013 is more user-friendly than previous versions, but the current beta isn't yet the final release version and will still have bugs at this point. Even in its final release form, it isn't intended to be a do-everything editor. And Autodesk has never marketed it as such. IMHO, those folks turning to it as a replacement for FCP7 are either clueless or haven't been paying attention.
My point - even though we all complain about downward pricing pressures in the market - is that at $10K (historically a super price for DS), it is a tough sell. So I'm legitimately asking whether there is ANY market for it.
