Hi Job, We have had serious problems with EditPrep. What are you experiences
with it?
Cheers

Hi Dan,
I just spent a few days setting it up, so haven't spent much time editing
yet, but it seems much faster than the XW8600 I was using. Notable when
scrubbing through the timeline, even more so when rendering dailies in
Resolve.
I basically just took the specs from Avid's website:
http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/supportFiles/attach/422411/PCQual_MC_SY_NC_AS_IN_
v6_10_17.pdf
and the configuration guide:
http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/attach/mc6specs/AVID%20HP%20Z800%20C
onfig%20guide%20Media%20Composer-%20Symphony%206.0%20%20NewsCutter%2010%20an
d%20later%20%20Rev%20A.pdf
Then I jotted down all the numbers (dual six-core X5650, BIOS version, 6x2GB
RAM config, Q4000, all of that), then emailed that to a trusted supplier of
refurbished HP workstations, and he made me a very decent quote and built
the exact configuration. More than 40% less than building a new system, and
mine comes with 2 years of warranty.
Few things that I do when setting up such a system for Avid:
- I have a Windows 7 themepack that is pretty spartan or XP-like if you
will, killing all Aero stuff and such
- I run EdPrep to configure the system for Avid, then just turn on smooth
fonts (EdPrep kills that by default)
- I install MacDrive, so I can mount and read/write Mac disks
It's always as hassle to move certain third party licenses from one machine
to the other, so switching CPU's always takes me some time.
