I say:

Oh, yeah. I forgot about that bootable DVD. I even have one. ;)
However, if you try to run the Lion installer APPLICATION, Snow
Leopard is required. You could still be doing a clean install; it's
just that the Lion installer application looks for SL before it will
run:
