Unity/ISIS user permissions are really the only way to prevent selected
editors from writing to a workspace. A "projects" workspace is tricky,
because any workspace you can write to, you can put media on. When your
project workspace fills up, then no one's autosave will work and you get a
phone call from every single editor on the network at the same time.

My larger fear is someone accidentally deleting projects or media on the
desktop level. There's no Trash folder for Unity!

In our new LA Bureau, we experimented a bit with this utility:

... in order to hide workspaces from the WIndows desktop level (but not
from any application, such as Unity Connection Manager or Media Composer).
Our brief tests seemed very promising.
