[Avid-L2] GPU vs CPU: Best bang for buck

 

Upgrading CPUs. 

Choices driven by economics and technical curiosity. 

High end quadro fx 5000 and single processor 6 or 4 core z420 (or z400).

OR

Entry level quadro fx 600/2000 and dual processor 12 core z820 (or z800)

Both configs with 32GB of RAM. 

Give the current state of the software which is more beneficial to Avid Media Composer performance CPU or GPU power.

They make a lot of noise about ADP, CUDA and OGL but wondering how it really works.
