I think the trick would be to try it (since you're testing anyway.)
Lots of things that aren't approved work. Of course, you have to decide
if you're willing to risk failure to save a hundred bucks or so... For
that matter, don't assume all SSDs are fast enough, either - you'll want
to find one that you're comfortable with since there are so many to
choose from. BMD specifies only specific drives, I think, but there are
likely dozens of brands that will work correctly.

Just sayin.

Can I use normal SATA discs with spinning platters?
No, these disks are not fast enough for uncompressed video capture and
playback.

Doesn't say anything about DNxHD though.
