Re: [Avid-L2] 2 way vs. 3 way stripe internal raid on MacPro?

+1

also John, it doesn't matter if the number of drives in the stripe set(RAID0) is odd or even. Available bandwith just adds up and so does the chance of a failure. Don't expect an n x (individual troughput) , but fairly close.

One thing I recommend is 7200rpm and 64MB cache.

I do get occasional stalls and dropped frames on output and sometimes it's very problematic punching in fixes but it is livable. I'm thinking of try a 3 way stripe in the future. In theory that should have better throughput, right? Just curious if there is anything about an odd number of drives in a stripe that could be problematic. I know RAM needs to be in matched pairs but I wouldn't think that has anything to do with a striped set of drive. Of course adding a 3rd drive would increase the potential for failure but that's not a deal breaker. Curious what more storage savvy folks think. Maxing out the MacPro with a system and 3 storage drives will increase the tub heat but is that any cause for concern?
