[Avid-L2] What version mc has Red AMA? and current workflow suggestions?

I can't remember when the Red ama plugin came to be.  What version of media composer did it start at?  Also from a workflow point of view I checked the Avid workflow document which is old and doesn't mention ama and the new ama page directs to a Red workflow that is under construction or revision.  With ama in the picture is there any reason not to take the R3D files, or is there a newer Red file format now?, and ama to those and transcode to offline resolution.  Once offline is done then use ama to relink back to the R3D files and transcode to DNX 220 for online.  I would think trying to ama link to the R3D files directly for online would be problematic.  If the destination is going to be a cable network I see no real need to go out to a Davince, Scratch etc.... for color correction of the R3D files to then output to HDCam.  Am I being overly simplistic or stubborn in not thinking I should go out to a platform other than symphony for a simple
stage show that just happens to be shot on Red.  There is no way this would ever be filmed out etc....
