I think to some extent that depends on whether you are talking about Avid connected to Avid hardware or software-only. In a software-only configuration, I've generally gotten similar performance on either platform for at least the past 5 years or so. Symphony with Avid hardware has generally been the rub for most and there PC seems to be the preferred config. Right now, Symphony with Decklink or Kona on a Mac Pro (no SAN) runs very well in my experience.
