[Avid-L2] Re: No dig...can someone explain why PC is preferred these days for MC?

I have had both PC and Mac versions since the mid 90s. In the beginning of the PC days, it was a little buggier than the Macs. Then somewhere in the early 2000s, it seemed to go the other way. Now The PC versions (on comparable CPU/GPU combinations) are much more stable and even snappier in some areas (like color correction).

Also in my experience, most serious crashes on the Mac take you directly to the desktop. On the PC you get an assertion error and can usually save before exiting.

There is also the uncertain future of Mac workstations to consider if investing now.

All that said, you have to realize V6 is essentially a V1 product. They rewrote for 64 bit and completely rewrote the UI. V1 of any software is always a bit sketchy. By V7 which by Avid's record should hit by next NAB, I would expect things to much more stable in general.

As for Unity, I haven't used one in years, but my experience with it was that things were always a little slower in the Unity universe.
