Well that's a new one for me. What happens if you capture without time code on the fly or even just hit play on the deck and record on the Avid. I rarely use firewire but that works with SDI etc.... Have you tried the same tape and deck into premiere. You said the deck worked there but was it the same source tape? Have you tried a number on known good DV tapes to capture?
