That's a somber hypothesis; because it suggests that Avid recognizes that the "shelf life" of Symphony's CC Tool is quickly expiring -- and that it's time to "fire sale" product upgrades while an argument can still be made for its value proposition. I hope your theory is not true.
As much as I would like to, I can't access Universal Mastering (no Nitris DX). At the same time, I also require more features than the somewhat antiquated Symphony CC Tool offers. However, going forward, I would not want to be on the short-end of the stick in terms of NEW features -- if Avid ever gets around to actually differentiating the products in a meaningful way.
Hard decision. Because, at least in the near term, I'd be paying $1k for the only two differentiating features separating MC and Symphony -- and I can't use one of them -- and, as much as I really respect and appreciate the time-saving capabilities of the other, it doesn't offer the features my clients require.
And even worse, I can't backstep that Symphony upgrade to MC -- which means I can't just walk into another facility and use my dongle to activate one of their extra MC computer platforms (which has happened several times in the past).
