That always worked for me in the past. This has been a long running issue, I am surprised it hasn't bit you yet. We hit it early on as we have a lot of different drives getting mounted all the time.
That said, I have been on Vista and 7 for quite a while now so I am stretching to remember the intricacies of XP. I seem to recall it was the memory "patch" that from Avid that kicked this issue off.
