I guess this sentence is key: "Cook did not rule out the possibility that iPhones, iPads and Macs could eventually run on the same microprocessor."

That's a typical lazy reporter gambit along the lines of, "Obama did not specifically say he was not born on another planet."

The Mountain Lion stuff I learned about in 5 minutes of Googling around seems aimed at the consumer experience. That's fine. There's zillions of them, and only 100K-200K people who can't get their work done on an iMac (I'm winging it here).

For example:

Apple Reportedly Planning Orders for 65-70 Million iPad 3 Displays in 2012

But here's one semi-hopeful rumor that there might be a new batch of Mac Pro computers released sometime this year:

====
M.I.C gadget reports that it has received information from sources indicating that Apple is "close to finally updating" its aging Mac Pro line. As we detailed in a report last month, the window for a potential Mac Pro update is approaching as Intel prepares to launch its Sandy Bridge E Xeon processors and AMD is pushing out its new "Tahiti" family of graphics cards.

But M.I.C gadget reports that Apple may be planning to switch back to NVIDIA for its stock graphics options in the next Mac Pro instead of sticking AMD as on the current models. The move, which would line up with a rumored similar shift for the MacBook Pro, could open the door to improved performance on a number of applications such as those from Adobe that embrace NVIDIA's CUDA architecture.
....
Unfortunately, M.I.C gadget does not have a terribly accurate record on hardware rumors, particularly on the Mac Pro front....

And as for being hosed, I need to buy several more wireless mic systems (about $2500-$3000/each). But with all the crazy spectrum policy shifts, white spaces devices, and stuff, I don't know if there's ANYTHING I can safely buy.

I tell ya, Hell in a Handbasket.

Jim
